Schematic of Cy5.5-GFFY crossing the BBB (IMAGE) Science China Press Caption Cover Story- A novel peptide, GFFY, coupled with the fluorescent dye Cy5.5, can self-assemble to form nanospheres that are capable of binding specifically to insulin receptors and crossing the blood-brain barrier (BBB) through insulin receptor mediated transcytosis. The tetrapeptide is highly versatile in covalently conjugating with other therapeutic agents. It will provide a new approach to construct efficient brain-targeted delivery systems for diagnosis and treatments of diseases related to the central nervous system.
