The World Mitochondria Society (WMS) are organizing a workshop on the "Evaluation of Mitochondria Function, Dysfunction, and Activities". The event will take place on October 11, 2023, in Berlin, a day before the Targeting Mitochondria 2023 Congress.
Workshop Context:
Mitochondria play a critical role in numerous health conditions, such as cardiological, neurological, and nephrological diseases, as well as infections. Considering the mitochondria's central position in human metabolism, its evaluation holds strategic importance in discovering treatments for these disorders. Thus, the capacity to detect and address mitochondrial diseases is fundamental.
Workshop Objectives:
The workshop is structured to achieve the following:
- Demonstrate the technological tools necessary for the study and analysis of mitochondria.
- Discuss the specific mitochondrial markers that should be assessed within a medical research context.
- Present various methodologies for analyzing mitochondria and their functions, including bioenergetics, biogenesis, dynamics, and mitophagy.
- Outline the biochemical diagnostic strategies applicable for mitochondrial diseases.
- Analyze practical cases related to mitochondrial function and dysfunction.
The workshop is suitable for individuals keen to enhance their proficiency and understanding in mitochondria, metabolism and bioenergetics, the roles they play in the body, analysis tools, and the most recent therapeutic developments.
Dr. Naig Gueguen, PhD, from Mitovasc Institute, Mitolab team, and a member of INSERM 1083, CNRS 6215, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire d’Angers, is looking forward to this enriching workshop.
